Indy driving champion Dan Wheldon, two time Indy winner, was killed today at the Las Vegas Speedway during the Izod season finale. There was a 15 car pile up with 3 airborne cars at one point. One car was launched in the air for 200 yards. Dan was caught in the crash, coming from behind and launched off of the car in front of him, crashing into the fence. His car then burst into flames. He died a short time later at the hospital. Dan was 33, married in 2008 and left behind two young children. He was competing for a 5 million dollar prize. Our prayers are with his family.

I mean, there were just pieces of metal and car on fire in the middle of the track with no car attached to it and just debris everywhere. So it was scary, and your first thoughts are hoping that no one is hurt because there’s just stuff everywhere. Crazy.”
